Europa League knockout round play-off draw: Barcelona face Napoli

Thomas Muller believes he has shown himself to be worthy of a Germany recall but will for now take it easy as he continues to star for Bayern Munich.

Muller along with Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels was dropped by Joachim Low following Germany s disappointing 2018 World Cup campaign.

The Bayern forward has not featured for his country since, with Low standing by his decision.

The Germany coach said last month Muller is a great player, no question but the future belongs to the young players .

Those comments have done little to quell speculation about a potential return for the 31-year-old ahead of the European Championships at the end of the season, however.

Serie A leaders Napoli were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday despite a 2-0 win at RB Leipzig, while Ciro Immobile s hat-trick sent Lazio into the last 16.

Louis van Gaal does not believe he has placed added pressure on his Netherlands squad by targeting World Cup glory, instead suggesting the players are on board with his ambitious aims.

Van Gaal talked up Oranje s chances right from the start of this tournament and has continued to do so, even if their performances in beating Senegal and drawing with Ecuador have not been entirely convincing.

The Netherlands still have work to do in their third match against Qatar to book a last-16 place, but the coach does not regret being so open with his goals for the finals.

Manchester City have recalled Dedryck Boyata from his loan spell at FC Twente after failing to secure regular first-team football at the club.

The one-cap Belgium international moved to Steve McClaren s team on a season-long deal on transfer deadline day in the summer, but went on to make just eight appearances, including one league start.

A statement on City s official website hinted that Boyata may soon find himself farmed out again.

The Belgian defender could well continue his education at another club in the coming weeks, the statement read.

Manchester United have secured talented youngster Hannibal Mejbri to a new long-term contract.

The 18-year-old France youth international joined in a reported £9million deal from Monaco in 2019 and has quickly established himself at the club.

Mejbri has already been deemed to have outgrown the Under-18s and is a regular for the club s Under-23s, scoring four goals and registering seven assists this term.

Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim insists he remains calm over his future at the Ligue 1 club, despite his position seemingly being under threat.

Jardim is in his second spell in charge of Monaco, having previously guided the side to the league title and a Champions League semi-final in 2016-17.

His first stint came to an end in October 2018, when he was sacked with Monaco languishing in the lower reaches of Ligue 1.

However, Jardim was back at the club in January, replacing his successor Thierry Henry, who had failed to improve results.
