France coach Didier Deschamps will have an eye on the future when his inexperienced young squad takes on Uruguay on Wednesday.
Deschamps has selected a squad of 23 players with an average age of 25.28 for France s tour of South America, with only Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna in his 30s.
France will face Uruguay in Montevideo on Wednesday before playing Brazil in Porto Alegre on Sunday as the two South American nations prepare for the 2013 Confederations Cup later this month.
While Uruguay and Brazil will be focused on the near future, France have their eye on World Cup qualifiers in September and October, as well as trying to find the next generation for the national team ahead of Brazil 2014.
Deschamps has taken 10 players with less than 10 international appearances at senior level to South America, while only four have played 30 or more times for the French national team (Sagna, Hugo Lloris, Yoann Gourcuff and Karim Benzema).
Wednesday s clash will be Deschamps first chance to see Eliaquim Mangala, Clement Grenier, Alexandre Lacazette and Josuha Guilavogui in action for France.
Mangala was crucial to Porto s title-winning season in Portugal s Primeira Liga, playing 23 matches in central defence, while Grenier (seven goals and five assists) and Lacazette (three goals, nine assists) were important parts of Lyon s impressive young side that finished third in Ligue 1.
Guilavogui, a 22-year-old defensive midfielder, was part of Saint-Etienne s Coupe de la Ligue triumph, while he also played 38 matches as his side finished fifth in Ligue 1.
Fans should be wary of Wednesday s contest, as the past four meetings between Uruguay and France have finished scoreless, including games at the 2010 and 2002 World Cups.
Uruguay head coach Oscar Tabarez will be expected to rely on Luis Suarez, plus one of Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan, for goals against France, although the Uruguayans have only hit the back of the net twice in three matches this year.
Botafogo midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro could provide some important scoring ability from the centre of the park after he notched two goals in his side s 2-1 victory over Cruzeiro on Saturday.
Tabarez will be looking for improvement from his team as they have yet to win this year and have a World Cup qualifier coming up against Venezuela on June 11 before kicking off their Confederations Cup campaign against Spain on June 16.
