Boyata returns to City

Manchester City have recalled Dedryck Boyata from his loan spell at FC Twente after failing to secure regular first-team football at the club.

The one-cap Belgium international moved to Steve McClaren s team on a season-long deal on transfer deadline day in the summer, but went on to make just eight appearances, including one league start.

A statement on City s official website hinted that Boyata may soon find himself farmed out again.

The Belgian defender could well continue his education at another club in the coming weeks, the statement read.

The 22-year-old has made 23 appearances for Roberto Mancini s side since signing from FC Brussels academy in 2009.

He also featured 17 times on loan for Bolton last season, but was unable to prevent the Trotters relegation to the Championship.

Meanwhile, City forward Luca Scapuzzi has joined Serie B outfit AS Varese on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has featured regularly for City s Elite Development Squad this term, scoring three goals in nine Under-21 appearances.

However, he has now been sent back to his native Italy until June 13 and will hope to aid Varese s push for promotion to Serie A.

Scapuzzi has made just two Manchester City appearances since joining the club in 2011, both coming in the League Cup.

He spent the first half of last season on loan with Oldham Athletic, making 17 appearances for Paul Dickov s side including one against Liverpool in the FA Cup.
