Real Madrid top of LaLiga after win over Granada

Real Madrid returned to the top of the LaLiga table with a 2-0 win against struggling Granada.

Rodrygo continued his impressive scoring streak with his seventh goal in his last five Real appearances to seal victory at the Bernabeu following Brahim Diaz’s first-half opener.

It means Real are now tied on 38 points with Girona at the top after Cristhian Stuani’s late brace saw the latter beat Valencia 2-1.

Hugo Duro gave Valencia the lead and they looked set to see out the win, but Stuani levelled in the 82nd minute before completing the comeback by scoring the winner six minutes later.

3 and top of the table!

Chelsea interested in Pavard

Chelsea are interested in signing Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich this summer, according to the Mirror.

The Blues are set for a major overhaul of their defensive ranks, with centre-backs Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger gone on free transfers to Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively. There has been much speculation about captain Cesar Azpilicueta too, whose contract has been extended until 2023. Barcelona are reportedly interested in his services as well, which would leave Chelsea short of options on the right defensive flank.

To that end, signing a player like Pavard would certainly make sense. With two years left on his contract at the Allianz Arena, the France international has reportedly held talks with Bayern about the possibility of moving on this summ…

Atletico Madrid 1 Sevilla 2: Montella´s men stage dramatic first-leg comeback

Atletico Madrid have been left with it all to do in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals as a late Miguel Angel Moya own goal was followed by a Joaquin Correa winner in Sevilla s shock 2-1 triumph at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Diego Costa s third goal in four games since re-joining Atletico arrived 17 minutes from time and appeared to have secured the hosts a slender first-leg victory, but a fortuitous Moya own goal after a Jesus Navas cross made things interesting.

Then, with only two minutes left, Joaquin Correa punished Atletico on the break to secure a fine result.

There was little indication of the two teams contrasting recent fortunes during the first half, as Sevilla – who had won just two of their previous eight in all competitions – gave as good as they got…

Real Mallorca 1-1 Real Madrid: Mbappe´s LaLiga debut ends all square

Real Madrid s LaLiga title defence got off to a limp start as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Mallorca.

Vedat Muriqi s second-half header for the home side cancelled out Rodrygo s early strike and denied Kylian Mbappe a win on his domestic debut.

Madrid started well and took the lead thanks to a fine curling strike by Brazilian forward Rodrygo, who was cutely assisted by a backheel pass from compatriot Vinicius Junior in the 13th minute.

However, Muriqi netted a powerful header from a corner in the 53rd minute to level for Mallorca, who had gone close when Thibaut Courtois fumbled a shot before the break.

Mbappe twice went close to restoring Madrid s lead, first hitting the post from a tight angle before seeing a low effort saved by Dominik Greif, wi…

Real Madrid defender Miguel Gutierrez completes move to Girona

Miguel Gutierrez has completed a permanent move from Real Madrid to Girona for a reported fee of €5million.

The 21-year-old full-back made just nine appearances in all for Madrid s senior team, spending most of his time at the LaLiga giants playing for the Castilla team.

After just three games for Los Blancos last season, Gutierrez has moved on and signed a five-year-deal with Girona as he seeks regular first team football.

He was a part of the Spain team that won the Under-19 European Championship in 2019, and also won the UEFA Youth League with Madrid under the guidance of legendary striker Raul in 2019-20.

Gutierrez becomes the sixth signing for Girona in this transfer window, with other arrivals including last season s Major League Soccer top goals…

USC use blind long snapper on extra point

USC helped Jake Olson fulfil his dream on Saturday as the blind long snapper made his debut for the Trojans.

Olson, a lifelong USC fan, has been blind since the age of 12 because of a rare form of retinal cancer but has been around the Trojans program since 2009, when then coach Pete Carroll heard about his story and his love for the team.

And Olson, who lost his left eye before his first birthday, got his shot in the fourth quarter of USC s 49-31 win over Western Michigan.

In what had been a tight game throughout, USC pulled away late and, after an interception return for a touchdown by USC safety Marvel Tell with just over three minutes remaining in the game, coach Clay Helton sent Olson out as the long snapper for the extra point.

Football rumours: Graham Potter in line to replace Erik ten Hag at Man United

What the papers say

The fallout from Manchester United’s Champions League exit continues with the future of manager Erik ten Hag under the spotlight. The Independent says no major decisions are expected until the sale of 25 per cent of the club to Ineos boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe is completed, but The Sun reports former Chelsea and Brighton boss Graham Potter is in line to take over.

The Daily Mail reports United are more likely to listen to offers for players after missing out on the money for reaching the knockout stages. Brazil midfielder Casemiro, 31, and France duo Anthony Martial, 28, and Raphael Varane, 30, could be available.

Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen could be on the move in January. According to the Daily Mirror, the club will be open to offers for the Dutch …

Northern Ireland rising star Isaac Price grateful to former boss Frank Lampard

Northern Ireland’s emerging talent Isaac Price has credited ex-Everton boss Frank Lampard with being a “massive” influence on his development and indicated the manager’s Goodison Park exit prompted his own summer move to Standard Liege.

Few Evertonians recall Lampard’s 12-month reign with great affection – they narrowly avoided relegation in May 2022 and then, amid protests against the board, failed to progress before he was sacked in January – but the 20-year-old Price believes he took big strides under the former England midfielder.

“(Lampard) was massive for me,” Price said. “I learnt so much while he was there. I had my debut… at Arsenal (in May 2022) and ever since then I felt like he really taught me a lot of stuff.

“He gave me my de…

Former Sevilla and Arsenal star Reyes dies in traffic accident

Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic accident at the age of 35, former club Sevilla have confirmed.

Reyes most recently played for Extremadura in Spain s second tier, representing them nine times in the second half of this season.

A former Spain international, Reyes came through Sevilla s academy having grown up in the town of Utrera, a few miles east of Andalusia s capital.

He broke into Sevilla s first-team as a teenager before earning himself a big-money move to Arsenal in 2004, staying there for three years.

A mercurial, talented winger, Reyes went on to feature for Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Benfica, before returning to his boyhood club in 2011 for a five-year spell.

We couldn t be confirming worse news. Beloved Sevilla star José …

Can Rabiot join Pirlo and Pogba among Juve´s best freebies?

Adrien Rabiot is close to finalising his anticipated move to Juventus and will join an esteemed tradition with the Serie A champions in the process.

A contractual dispute contributed to the French midfielder being frozen out of first-team affairs at Paris Saint-Germain last term and he was linked to a host of European heavyweights.

But Juve got their man, as they so often have when it comes to securing high-class free transfers in an ever-inflated market.

With Wales international Aaron Ramsey also arriving for no fee following an 11-year stay at Arsenal, we look at other players who have run their deals down to join the dominant force in Italian football.
